I first became interested in tattooing while earning a BA in Studio Art at UT Austin in the 1990's. After graduation, I completed an apprenticeship with Daniel Upton at Dandyland in San Antonio in 1999. After graduation, I completed an apprenticeship with Daniel Upton at Dandyland in San Antonio in 1999. I spent five years at this award winning tattoo shop, where I gained experience and indispensable wisdom from my coworkers and the many guest artists who came through. I moved to Austin in 2004 and was fortunate to land a spot at the legendary Atomic Tattoo where I continued to develop as an artist. As my reputation and clientele grew in Austin, I eventually began to work by appointment only in order to better accommodate scheduling large custom tattoos.
I love variety and enjoy drawing and tattooing in diverse styles that I believe are tried and true, meaning that they will hold in the skin and continue to look great as the years pass. I do work in the following styles and would be happy to discuss other styles you might request:
Black and Gray Realism
Full Color Tattoos
Full Sleeves and Ba

My first priority is to give my clients the best possible tattoo and overall experience. My first priority is to give my clients the best possible tattoo and overall experience. I do this by first meeting for a consultation at the tattoo shop so we can talk about your ideas and aesthetic preferences, I can do some quick sketches, we can make sure that we agree on the overall vision for the tattoo, we can discuss price estimates and scheduling, and you can leave a deposit to secure your appointments.
Your tattoo will be a one of a kind, hand drawn, custom designed piece of art unique to you.
Each tattoo is priced based on the size, complexity, and time it takes to complete. During your consultation we can talk about the design and I can quote you a price for small or medium sized tattoos. Large, multi-session tattoos are charged by the hour, and I can give you low and high estimates of what the final cost might be.
Many tattoos can be covered or reworked, but some will need a few sessions of laser removal first. The darker and denser the old tattoo is, the fewer your options might be in subject matter and style for the cover-up. Organic designs with black shading and strong color usually work best. I have also had success with using black and opaque grays to cover old tattoos that have no color.
You should stay away from pools, hot tubs, and other bodies of water until your tattoo is finished healing and peeling. This can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks depending on the tattoo and your body's ability to heal.
Tattoo care, like all skin care, is a lifelong task. The better you treat your skin, the better your tattoo will age. I recommend using moisturizer on your tattoos to keep your black crisp and colors bright. Also, remember to always protect your tattoos from the damaging UV rays of the sun with either UV blocking clothing or sunblock with SPF 50 or higher.
I can schedule your consultation over the internet, and then take a deposit for your tattoo in person at the shop. Atomic Tattoo currently requires all payments be made in person at the shop, where our friendly front counter staff can help you complete your deposit form and payment.
Most tattoos won't need any touch ups, but sometimes a little spot might not heal well and there is some ink loss, or maybe once it has healed and settled it ends up a bit lighter than expected. If that happens, let me know within 6 months of completing your tattoo and we can set up a quick touch up.
Most of the time I do not recommend going back over old tattoos, but instead letting them age naturally and gracefully. That is, unless the tattoo has faded substantially, then it might be a candidate for being redone or reworked. If you have questions about what can be done with an old, faded tattoo, feel free to reach out.
